Men's golf team still finding its way after first OEC match

The Irvine Valley men's golf team ended up sixth out of six Orange Empire Conference teams at the Eagle Classic at Soboba Springs on Wednesday.

The Lasers finished with a team score of 412.

Riverside was the top OEC team with a score of 367. Orange Coast shot 372, Saddleback came in at 384, Cypress was at 386 and Mt. SAC ended up at 391.

Irvine Valley was paced by sophomore captain Bruce Miranda.

He had seven pars, 10 bogeys and one double bogey for a score of 84 on the par 72 Soboba Springs Golf Course at 6,822 yards.

Freshman Anton Li had one birdie, 10 pars, five bogeys, one double bogey and one triple bogey.

Freshman Ryan Cooper finished with one birdie, six pars, 10 bogeys and one double bogey.

Freshman Jinhan Park had one birdie, 11 pars, five bogeys and one double bogey.

Freshman Ryan Kurniawan had two birdies, five pars, seven bogeys, two double bogeys and two triple bogeys.

And freshman DJ Llorente-Blankenburg had one par, seven bogeys, six double bogeys, three triple bogeys and one quadruple bogey for Irvine Valley.

"Our coaching staff is committed to help each team member to improve their skills including; ball striking, short game, putting, course management, and mental game in order to earn more competitive scores," Irvine Valley interim coach AiLam Newkirk said.

The Lasers play again Feb. 27 at the Riverside Invitational.
