Men's golfer Joe Gordon places 49th at CCCAA South Regional

Irvine Valley golfer Joe Gordon saw his solid sophomore season come to a close on Monday at the CCCAA South Regional Championship at Bear Creek Golf and Country Club in Murrieta.

Gordon finished with a two-round total of 18 over par 162 at the event.

He shot 81 in the morning round and then followed that up with another 81 in the afternoon.

Gordon wasn't far off the field's average, which was 78.7 for the morning and 79.9 for the afternoon rounds.

Gordon ended 49th of 66 competitors and seventh out of the 12 individuals that were in the field.

He won a playoff last week at the Orange Empire Conference finals to move on to the regional event.

Gordon was the low scorer for the IVC team this season.

"He had a solid two years at Irvine Valley," coach Ben Burnett said. "I know he had a lot of good memories here and he expressed his appreciation for the support of his teammates, fellow students, coaches, teachers and advisors.

"Joe was also involved in student government and homecoming here at IVC. He has already been accepted to enroll at many outstanding universities, including Cal Berkeley."

Canyons won the team event at the South Regional, finishing with a team score of 743. It beat second-place Santiago Canyon by 17 strokes.

The medalist for the day was Canyons Will Barnett, who shot 142 (69 and 73).
