Joe Gordon takes over team scoring lead with 75 at Costa Mesa

Sophomore Joe Gordon played another solid round, but Irvine Valley's men's golf team finished sixth at the latest Orange Empire Conference match on Monday at Costa Mesa.

Irvine Valley finished with a team score of 407 to place sixth.

Cypress won the match with a 365, Saddleback (374), Santiago Canyon (374), Orange Coast (377) and Riverside (382) followed.

Gordon's 3 over par score of 75 earned him the lead for team medalist honors for the season over fellow sophomore Andrew Lichty.

Gordon used one birdie, 14 pars, two bogeys and one double bogey for the 75.

Until this conference match on the par 72 Los Lagos Costa Mesa public course, Lichty held a one stroke lead.

On Wednesday, Lichty posted a score of 80 with 10 pars and eight bogeys.

Freshman Bruce Miranda used three birdies over the last nine holes to post IVC's second best score of 78. Miranda finished with three birdies, seven pars, seven bogeys and one double bogey.

Sophomore Steven Zezima had seven pars, nine bogeys and two double bogeys for a score of 85.

Freshmen Abert Arvayo and Kurt Hendricks each came in at 89 for IVC.

Although IVC has about a dozen wins against non-conference competition, the Lasers are still seeking their first conference victory of the season.

The team competes next Monday at the Victoria Golf Course in Riverside in its next conference match.
