Gordon's 76 nearly leads men's golf team to first OEC win

Paced by sophomore Joe Gordon's 4 over par 76, at the El Prado/Chino Creek golf course, the Irvine Valley men's golf team just missed picking up its first conference victory on Wednesday.

The match was hosted by Santiago Canyon.

IVC finished just one shot behind rival Saddleback.

Orange Coast won the Orange Empire Conference match with a score of 375. Riverside was second at 378 and followed by Santiago Canyon at 379. Cypress was fourth at 381, Saddleback finished fifth at 397 and Irvine Valley came in sixth with a score of 398.

Gordon shot his 76 with one birdie, 12 pars and five bogeys.

Sophomore Andrew Lichty came in at 78 for IVC with two birdies, nine pars, six bogeys and one double bogey.

Freshman Bruce Miranda finished at 79 with one birdie, 11 pars, five bogeys and one triple bogey, sophomore Steven Zezima had two birdies, seven pars, eight bogeys and one double bogey for a 81 and freshman Kurt Hendricks had six pars and 12 bogeys for a 84.

Freshman Albert Arvayo had the throwout score of 91 for IVC.

Irvine Valley plays in an invitational tournament at Desert Islands in Palm Springs next Monday. The invitational is a preview of course used at the CCCAA State Championships.
