Men's golf team beats Santiago Canyon

Paced by freshman Jed Meng and sophomores Michael Glauser and  Steven Meyer, the Irvine Valley men's golf team defeated Orange Empire Conference leader Santiago Canyon along with two other teams at Monday's conference match at Tijeras Creek.

IVC also beat Saddleback and Palomar.

The match was played in rain showers and a cold breeze making it a challenge for most players to produce expected scores, according to IVC Coach Ben Burnett.

Cypress won the match with a score of 385.

Orange Coast was next at 387 and then Cuymaca was the third-best team at 388.

Riverside came in at 391 and then it was Irvine Valley at 393.

Palomar scored 399 and Saddleback and Santiago Canyon scored 410, with Saddleback winning with its sixth-man tie-breaker score.

Meng had two birdies, 11 pars and five bogeys to score 3 over par 75 to lead the Lasers.

Glauser had an eagle, 13 pars, two bogeys and two double bogeys for a score of 76.

Meyer combined four birdies, six pars, five bogeys and three double bogeys to post a score of 79.

Freshman Zach Chavous had three birdies, five pars, eight bogeys and two double bogeys for a score of 81. 

Freshman Jeff Koch finished with one birdie, eight pars, seven bogeys and two double bogeys for a score of 82.

And IVC freshman Tyler Chavous produced the throw-out score of 84. He had nine pars, seven bogeys, one double bogey and a triple bogey.

Irvine Valley hosts the final regular season conference match on Wednesday at Green River.
