
Irvine Valley men's sophomore basketball player Jesse Stines has committed to NCAA Division II University of Alaska Anchorage.
Stines, a 6-6 post player that can also shoot from outside, was named first team all-Orange Empire Conference and Irvine Valley's most valuable player this past season.
He helped Irvine Valley to a 17-12 overall record, 8-8 mark in the conference for third place and a trip to the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs.
IVC fell in the opening round in a tough 68-62 game at San Bernardino Valley.
Stines led the Lasers in points, rebounds and blocks on the season. He also ranked second in field goal percentage and three-point shooting.
He averaged 13.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game and shot 48.8 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from three-point range.
Stines, out of Sonora High, scored in double figures in 24 of Irvine Valley's 29 games.
He is headed to an Alaska Anchorage program that had a record of 22-11 last season and went 10-8 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The team made the Divsion II West Regional Championships.
