Men's basketball team rolls in win over LA Valley at home

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team won its fourth game in its last five contests Friday night at home.

And it was an impressive one for the Lasers. Irvine Valley led by as many as 36 points in the second half before closing out a 69-49 nonconference victory over LA Valley.

Irvine Valley moved its record to 8-3 overall as it heads into the start of Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday at home against Orange Coast at 6 p.m.

Sophomore post player Jesse Stines finished with 14 points and eight rebounds and sophomore guard Luke Farrington had 14 points and four assists to lead the Lasers.

Sophomore wing Marcus Carter came off the bench and contributed nine points and five rebounds, sophomore guard Roman Swikez chipped in seven points and sophomore point guard David Ogunlade had a big impact, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Ogunlade ended with five points, five rebounds, five assists, two blocks and three steals in the contest.

Sophomore guard Ammon Allan also had five points, five rebounds and four assists for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley led, 30-17, at the end of the first half on 42.3 percent (11 of 26) shooting from the field and held the Monarchs (3-7 overall) to just 6 of 24 from the field (25.0 percent).

The Lasers pulled away early in the second half and ended up shooting 50.9 percent as a team in the game (27 of 53). IVC made 16 of 27 of their shots in the second half.

IVC also out-rebounded LA Valley, 45-24, and had 18 assists on their 27 made baskets.

Irvine Valley took its largest lead of the contest with 6:07 to play at 65-29 when Carter grabbed a long defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast for a dunk.
