Men's basketball team gets off to fast start, but loses at OCC

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team jumped out quick on Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference game Monday night on the road.

The Lasers got out to a 13-4 lead through the first eight minutes of the game. But Orange Coast went on a 16-7 run to lead at the break and went on to a 65-58 victory.

Orange Coast improved to 13-8 overall and 5-4 in conference, while Irvine Valley fell to 4-17 overall and 0-9 in the OEC.

For IVC, freshman guard Luke Farrington led the way with 21 points and freshman point guard Christian Griffin added 11 points. Sophomore post player Charlie Henderson chipped in seven points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Jydon Hall led OCC with 23 points and six steals and Logen Howard had 15 points.

Orange Coast led 34-28 at the half and led by double digits in the second half. The Lasers pulled to within six points with five minutes left to play, but never got any closer the rest of the night.

Turnovers cost the Lasers as they had 25 for the night. Orange Coast turned that into 21 points.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Saddleback at 5 p.m.
