Basketball team opens OEC play at home against Orange Coast

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team starts its Orange Empire Conference slate tonight with a home game against Orange Coast at 6 p.m.

The Lasers have a record of 4-8 overall. IVC is coming off of a 57-48 loss at Los Angeles Valley last Friday night. Sophomore post player Charlie Henderson led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds for IVC.

Freshman guard Roman Swizek added 10 points.

The Lasers shot just 31.1 percent (19 of 61) from the field as a team.

Henderson paces the Lasers on the year, averaging 13.7 points and shooting 50.0 percent. He is also averaging 9.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game for IVC.

Irvine Valley takes on a Orange Coast squad that is off to a strong start. The Pirates have a record of 7-3 overall. OCC lost at Miramar, 82-62, on Dec. 9.

Orange Coast averages 87.4 points per game.

The Pirates are led by Jydon Hall, who averages 20.2 points per game. Logen Howard is averaging 16.8 points and the Pirates' other player scoring in double figures on the year is Sam Hunter at 12.8 points per game.

Jaiden Greene is tops in rebounds for OCC at 5.8 per game and Howard is averaging 4.0 assists per game.

After tonight's game, Irvine Valley is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Saddleback at 5 p.m.
