Men's basketball team to take on MiraCosta Friday at home

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team hosts MiraCosta on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Lasers are coming off of a tough 70-56 loss at San Diego Miramar on Wednesday night.

Irvine Valley has a record of 2-2 overall.

The Lasers reached the championship game of its own IVC Classic last weekend before falling to Cerritos, 69-53.

Sophomore post Charlie Henderson and freshman forward Ethan McCanless were each named all-tournament for the IVC.

Irvine Valley then went on the road Wednesday and fell to Miramar, 70-56.

On the year, Irvine Valley is led by Henderson, who is averaging 16.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

He is shooting 63.6 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three-point range.

Freshman guard Roman Swizek is averaging 14.3 points and McCanless averages 6.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for the Lasers.

MiraCosta enters Friday's contest with a 2-3 record overall.

The Spartans have played a tough schedule so far.

MiraCosta won its first two games, but have dropped three in a row.

The team fell to Mt. San Jacinto, 72-70, Wednesday at home.

Dylan Cabs scored 13 points and had four rebounds, Darryl Jackson Jr. added 12 points and six rebounds and Mason Bowers had 11 points and five rebounds for the Spartans.

On the season, Kobe Smith is averaging 17.0 points per game. Bowers and Jackson Jr. are each averaging 12.4 points per game. Bowers is also shooting 51.2 percent from the field.

Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday with an early start at 3 p.m. at home against Southwestern.

The IVC women's volleyball team will follow at 6 p.m. with a second-round match in the California Community College Athletic Assosociation So. Cal. Regional Playoffs.
