Men's basketball takes down Orange Coast for first OEC win

After having its last two Orange Empire Conerence games postponed due to health and safety protocols, the Irvine Valley men's basketball team was able to get back on the court Wednesday night.

The Lasers defeated Orange Coast, 73-55, on the road.

Irvine Valley, ranked No. 28 in the state, improved its record to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in conerence.

The Lasers opened conference with tough, close losses to No. 3 Fullerton and No. 17 Riverside, but had conference games postponed due to health and safety protocols with Golden West and Santa Ana last week.

On Wednesday night at Orange Coast, Irvine Valley took a 43-30 lead into the half and out-scored the Pirates, 30-25, in the second half.

Irvine Valley was paced by freshman guard Matt DeAngelo, who scored a season-high 14 points.

Sophomore standout wing player Aaron Strings added 13 points, sophomore guard Luc Krystkowiak had 12 points and sophomore point guard JT Robinson contributed 11 points for the Lasers in the win.

irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Cypress in a conference game at 5 p.m.

It is part of a doubleheader with the Laser women hosting Riverside at 7 p.m.

No spectators are allowed through district rules through the end of January.
