Men's basketball team makes it two victories in a row

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team made it two wins in two tries to start the 2019-20 season.

The Lasers received strong efforts from several players, including sophomore forward Austin Carter, sophomore wing Christian Louis and freshman forward Chazz Hutchison to beat Cuyamaca, 69-50, on Friday night at home.

Carter led the way with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.

Louis added 11 points and Hutchison chipped in seven points, 10 rebounds and two assists in the win.

Freshman guard Devin Owens also contributed 10 points and three blocks, freshman forward Jesse Stines had seven points, sophomore forward Bryce Roczey finished with six points and five rebounds and sophomore guard Ricky Robinson had a team-best six assists for the Lasers.

IVC dominated all over.

Irvine Valley shot 47.5 percent (28 of 59) as a team in the contest and held Cuyamaca to just 32.7 percent (16 of 49) shooting from the field.

IVC also out-rebounded the Coyotes, 43-29, and out-scored them in the paint, 46-16.

Irvine Valley received 32 points from its bench.

The Lasers led, 12-3, out of the gate and were up 35-24, at the half.

IVC was up by as many as 24 points in the second half before winning by 19.

Irvine Valley doesn't play again until next Thursday when it hosts the San Juan Hills Toyota Classic. IVC takes on College of the Canyons at 7 p.m. next Thursday.
