Men's basketball team edged in both games at El Camino tourney

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team dropped both of its games in the Paul Landreaux Classic at El Camino College this week.

Irvine Valley lost to Bakersfield, 75-66, on Thursday and then fell to Santa Monica, 68-60, on Friday.

The two defeats made Irvine Valley's record 3-12 overall.

Santa Monica improved to 10-7 with its win over Irvine Valley on Friday.

Irvine Valley was up, 36-30, over Santa Monica, but was out-scored, 38-24, in the second half.

The Lasers ended up shooting just 35.9 percent (23 of 64) in the game against Santa Monica.

Sophomore guard Geoff Salas led the way for Irvine Valley with 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Freshman guard Christian Louis added eight points and five rebounds and sophomore guard Isaiah Mahmud had seven points and five rebounds for the Lasers.

Kyle Young paced Santa Monica with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Against Bakersfield, Irvine Valley also had the lead at the half. IVC was up, 39-32, but couldn't hold on in the second half.

Bakersfield out-scored the Lasers, 43-27, in the second half for the win.

Freshman forward Sadiq Muhammad had 16 points, Salas had 13 points and seven rebounds and Mahmud  added 12 points.

Bakersfield, which was led by Anieus Medrano with 20 points, went to 8-5 overall.

Irvine Valley finishes off its non-conference schedule against LA Valley on Dec. 28 at LA Valley.
