Basketball team drops another close game, falls to Moorpark

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team finished up play in the Don Johnson Classic at Cypress College on Friday with another close defeat.

After losing to Santa Monica, 67-63, Wednesday on the first day of the tourney, the Lasers fell to Moorpark, 65-62, on Friday.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 3-8 overall. Five of the team's losses have been by four points or less this season.

Irvine Valley led, 30-28, at the half, but couldn't hold off Moorpark in the second half. Moorpark went to 7-5 on the year.

Freshman guard Sean Murphy finished with 13 points and freshman forward Sadiq Muhammad had 12 points and nine rebounds to pace the Lasers. Sophomore guards Isaiah Mahmud and Geoff Salas each chipped in eight points.

On the year, Salas is averaging 10.4 points, Mahmud averages 9.0 points and freshman guard Christian Louis is averaging 9.0 points per game. And sophomore forward David Georgiev averages 7.5 points and 7.1 rebounds for Irvine Valley.  

The Lasers play again next Thursday night at home as part of a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference vs. Orange Empire Conference Crossover event.

Cypress will play Miramar at 4 p.m. followed by Irvine Valley taking on MiraCosta at 6 p.m.
