Men's basketball team can't slow down Riverside at home

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team couldn't stop a red-hot shooting Riverside squad on Wednesday night at home.

The Tigers shot 60.9 percent from the field as a team on their way to a 82-70 Orange Empire Conference victory over the Lasers.

Irvine Valley's record fell to 13-10 overall and 2-4 in conference, while Riverside improved to 12-8 overall and 3-3 in conference.

It was IVC's third straight loss, while Riverside won its second game in a row.

IVC was paced by freshman forward Jake Linsky, who finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Daniel Hernandez finished with 21 points and freshman guard Isaiah Mahmud had eight points for the Lasers.

Riverside had four players score in double figures, led by Andre Wilson with 23 points. Jordan Robinson had 16 points, Brae Ivey finished with 14 points, six rebounds and 11 assists and Kane Daniels had 12 points.

Riverside jumped out to a 41-35 lead at the half after making 8 of 10 three-pointers.

And the Tigers pulled away in the second half.

IVC went nearly four minutes without scoring midway through the half.

Irvine Valley will play again on Friday, starting the second round of conference action at Orange Coast at 7 p.m.
