Irvine Valley's men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 56-54 victory over Long Beach City in a consolation game of the Bill Brummel Classic on Friday afternoon at Saddleback.
The Lasers bounced back with the win after losing a tough 82-20 game to defending state champion San Diego City in the opening round on Thursday.
Irvine Valley will play for the consolation title against MiraCosta on Saturday at noon.
IVC's win on Friday improved its record to 9-6 overall. Long Beach City fell to 7-8.
Sophomore forward Zane Paddon and freshman forward Jake Linsky led the Lasers. Paddon hd 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench for IVC, while Linsky finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds and three assists.
Freshman guard Aaron Harris added nine points and four rebounds and freshman guard Daniel Chatman added six points.
Chatman went 6 of 6 from the free throw line for his points. His last two free throws were the difference in the game.
IVC trailed late in the contest, 49-45, but then scored six straight points, taking a 50-49 lead on a three-pointer by freshman guard Kevin Olsen with 3:11 to play.
Two Chatman free throws put IVC ahead, 52-49, with 2:40 to go.
But Long Beach City tied the game at 52-52. Linsky scored inside to give IVC a 54-52 advantage with 31 seconds left.
Long Beach City's Jeremiah Sadler sank a jumper to tie it at 54-54 with 15 seconds to go.
IVC's Chatman drove and was fouled with just four seconds remaing and he sank both free throws to put IVC ahead, 56-54.
Long Beach City missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
