Men's basketball team ends regular season with road victory

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 69-55 Orange Empire Conference win over Santa Ana Friday night on the road.

The win lifted Irvine Valley's record to 15-13 overall and 3-9 in conference.

The Lasers are probably on the outside looking in of a spot in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

The playoff pairings will be announced on Monday afternoon.

Santa Ana saw its record fall to 5-21 overall and 1-11 in conference.

Irvine Valley got a game-high 18 points from freshman guard Isaiah Milan. Milan was 8 of 13 from the field. He also had four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Freshman forward Zach Harvey added 13 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Sophomore guard Jacob Short and freshman center Lamont Tyler each contributed seven points off the bench.

Irvine Valley's bench out-scored Santa Ana, 38-7.

The Lasers shot 42.0 percent (29 of 69) from the field as a team, while Santa Ana shot just 28.8 percent (17 of 59).

Irvine Valley led most of the way. A layup by Milan two minutes into the contest gave IVC the lead for good.

The Lasers went on to take a 29-20 lead into the half before out-scoring the Dons, 40-34, in the second half for the 69-54 final score.

Roger Hamel led Santa Ana with 18 points and Noah Wellington had 17 points for Santa Ana.
