Basketball player Chris Salas signs with Academy of Art

Irvine Valley sophomore men's basketball player Chris Salas has signed with Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Academy of Art is a Division 2 school that plays in the PacWest Conference.

Salas, a 6-4 guard, had a breakout sophomore season at IVC.

He was named first team all-Orange Empire Conference after averaging 9.5 points and 2.1 rebounds for the Lasers this past season.

Salas, who prepped at El Dorado High, led Irvine Valley in scoring during the 2014-15 season.

Salas also shot 37.4 percent (34 of 91) from three-point range. He was second on the team in three-pointers made.

He scored in double figures in 12 games and topped 20 points twice. Salas finished the season with four straight games with at least 10 points.

He had a season-high 21 points in Irvine Valley's win at Orange Coast on Jan. 21.

Salas made 5 of 6 three-pointers in a 20-point performance in a loss at then No. 1 Mt. San Antonio on Nov. 25.

Before arriving at IVC, he was an Orange County all-star at El Dorado after averaging 14.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

Salas is heading to an Academy of Art team that had a record of 7-19 last season.
