Irvine Valley sophomore men's basketball player Chris Porter has signed with Cal State Monterey Bay.

Porter signed his letter of intent in front friends on the IVC men's and women's basketball teams and with his parents Renee and Paul and brother Paul at his side earlier this week.

Porter was a two-year starter for the Lasers. He was chosen as IVC's most inspirational player at the team's recent banquet.

The 6-6 forward averaged 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this past season for the Lasers.

He had eight games in which he scored in double figures, including an IVC career-high 20 points in Irvine Valley's 73-62 win at home over Santa Ana on Feb. 18. Porter made 7 of 10 shots from the field, including 4 of 5 three-pointers in the contest.

Porter ranked fourth on the team in scoring and second in rebounds this past season.

He showed he could score inside and out by also finishing third on the team in three-pointers made with 31. He shot 35.2 percent from three-point range as a sophomore.

Porter helped Irvine Valley to a 16-11 record overall and a 9-3 mark for second place in the Orange Empire Conference.

During his freshman campaign in 2013-14, Porter was chosen as a first team all-conference player after averaging 7.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game, while shooting 48.2 percent from the field.

Irvine Valley finished with a record of 25-5 overall and was 9-3 in conference for second place during 2013-14.

Porter gray-shirted at Irvine Valley during the 2012-13 season.

Porter, who prepped at South Hills High in West Covina, heads to a Cal State Monterey Bay team that had a record of 13-15 overall this past season and was 9-13 in the CCAA.
