Irvine Valley's men's basketball team had its perfect start to the season halted this past week.
The team suffered its first loss in the opening game of the Bill Brummel Classic at Saddleback.
But the Lasers responded with two straight wins to finish up the tournament.
Irvine Valley, ranked No. 1 in the state, lost to No. 18 Mt. San Jacinto, 59-41, last Thursday.
Irvine Valley bounced back by defeating LA Trade Tech, 69-55, on Friday and then won the consolation title of the tournament with a convincing and dominating 59-36 victory over Long Beach City.
Mt. San Jacinto went on to defeat host Saddleback for the tournament title.
IVC improved its record to 14-1 on the season with the win over Long Beach City.
Long Beach City fell to 6-6.
It was Irvine Valley's second win over the Vikings this season.
The Lasers' defense held Long Beach City to just 23.5 percent shooting from the field, including 16 percent in the first half.
Irvine Valley also out-rebounded Long Beach City, 42-26.
Sophomore guard Shaquille Hunter led IVC with 18 points and five assists and earned all-tournament honors.
Freshman forward Chris Porter added 12 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds while sophomore center Declan Daly and freshman guard Jimmy Golden each tossed in 11 points.
In the team's win over Trade Tech on Friday, Hunter scored 22 points, freshman point guard Jalen Hall added 13 points and Dalay had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Irvine Valley plays again on Saturday, hosting LA Valley at 6 p.m.
It is the team's final non-conference game before the start of Orange Empire Conference play in January.
