
Irvine Valley's baseball team scored four runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth to topple Grossmont, 13-8 , on Tuesday at home.
It was a battle all day long between two of the squads with the best records in Southern Calilfornia.
IVC lost to Grossmont, 6-5, earlier last Tuesday in San Diego, but that didn't happen again at home.
The Lasers trailed, 7-5, after the top of the sixth inning and then, 7-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but scored seven runs over the next two frame to take the win and improve their record to 8-3 overall.
Grossmont fell to 7-2 overall.
In the bottom of the seventh, Irvine Valley scored four runs on two hits, two Grossmont errors, a walk and a sacrifice bunt and a balk to take the lead for good.
Freshman shortstop Jake Amundson walked to lead off the inning.
Sophomore first baseman Jackson Snitko then had a bunt single.
And sophomore designated hitter reached on an error by the pitcher on a bunt. Amundson scored to tie the game at 7-7.
The Lasers went ahead soon after when Grossmont picther Taylor Morgan balked. It scored Snitko from third base.
Two batters later, another error on a hard hit ball by freshman center fielder Sam Tucci scored Murray.
And Irvine Valley closed out the frame on a single to center by sophomore catcher Aaron Serrato.
IVC led, 10-7, and never looked back.
The Lasers added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Amundson scored sophomore second baseman Chase Quezada with a triple to right field and then Amundson scored on a wild pitch.
A bunt single by sophomore third baseman Shaun McCaghren brought in the final run of the inning.
On the day at the plate for IVC, Amundson was 2 for 4 with three runs, two walks and one RBI.
Snitko went 1 for 1 with four walks and four runs scored. Murray and McCaghren each added two hits and two RBI.
Tucci and freshman right fielder Connor Gomez each drove in runs and Quezada walked once and scored two runs for the Lasers
Sophomore right-hander Tyler Eastham started on the mound and threw four innings, giving up six hits, one walk and four runs with one strikeout.
Freshman right-hander Andres Gomez earned the win, battling through 2.2 innings.
And sophomore righty Zack Marker picked up his second save of the season with 1.1 innings of scoreless ball.
Irvine Valley plays again on Thursday at San Diego Mesa and then hosts the Olympians on Saturday at noon.
