Baseball team loses OEC series finale to Cypress on Friday

Irvine Valley's baseball team held a 4-2 lead after the top of the fourth inning in an Orange Empire Conference game Friday at Cypress.

The Chargers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and four runs in the eighth and went onto a 10-6 victory over the Lasers.

Irvine Valley's record went to 9-16 overall and 1-8 in the OEC. Cypress improved its mark to 16-9 overall and 3-6 in conference.

Irvine Valley freshman right-hander Tyler Eastham took the loss. He entered the game in relief in the sixth inning and gave up three runs on three hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Freshman righty Zack Marker started the game and pitched five innings. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks and one strikeout.

At the plate for the Lasers, freshman left fielder Drew Seidel went 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, one run and one RBI.

Sophomore catcher Jimmy Zakhar homered for the second game in a row. He went 1 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI. 

Irvine Valley plays again in a nonconference game on Tuesday at home against LA Harbor at 2 p.m.
