
Irvine Valley starting pitcher Sammy Murphy has signed with NCAA Division II Cal State San Marcos.
Murphy, who was IVC's No. 1 starter this past season, is headed to a San Marcos team that finished with a record of 20-25 overall this past season and 14-21 in a tough California Collegiate Athletic Association in 2023.
At Irvine Valley this year, the former Trabuco Hills High star had a record of 5-8 with a 5.06 ERA. He pitched 83.2 innings and struck out 65 batters.
Murphy pitched at least six innings in seven games and went eight innings in two contests, including giving up just one run on four hits in an eight-inning outing in a 5-2 IVC win at LA Valley on Feb. 28.
Murphy struck out 111 batters in 148.1 innings in his two years with the Lasers.
