Baseball team falls in conference series finale to Santa Ana

Irvine Valley's baseball team finished up its three-game Orange Empire Conference series with a 11-3 loss to Santa Ana on Friday at home.

IVC's record slipped to 9-20 overall and 0-12 in conference. Santa Ana moved to 18-10 overall and 8-4 in OEC play.

Irvine Valley took a 2-1 lead after the first inning. Sophomore catcher Connor Tallakson and sophomore second baseman Nolan Cusey each had RBI singles for the Lasers.

But the Dons responded in the top of the second sinning, scoring four runs to take control.

The Lasers pulled within 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo home run by sophomore left fielder Drew Porter.

Two runs buy the Dons in the top of the sixth inning and then a four-run inning in the top of the ninth put the game away.

Freshman left-hander Shane Stafford took the loss for the Lasers. He went 1.2 innings and gave up five runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Joey Iglasias picked up the win in relief for the Dons. He entered in the fifth inning and went the rest of the way. Iglasias didn't give up a run and allowed just three hits with two strikeouts over five innings.

IVC finished with 11 hits on the day. Porter and sophomore first baseman Adrian Reveles each had two hits for the Lasers.

Christian Thompson had three RBI and Troy Kent finished with three hits and two RBI for the Dons.

Irvine Valley is off from conference play next week. The Lasers play at LA Harbor on Tuesday and then host Harbor on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
