Baseball team has tough day at the plate at Fullerton

Irvine Valley's baseball team is still looking for its first Orange Empire Conference win after falling to Fullerton, 4-1, on the road Monday.

The game was moved from Tuesday to Monday to miss the incoming rain in Southern California.

The two teams finished the contest in just under two hours.

Fullerton improved its record to 13-10 overall and 1-3 in conference, while Irvine Valley went to 9-12 overall and 4-0 in the OEC.

Irvine Valley scored 24 runs in its three-game series with Cypress last week, but was held to just one run and three hits on Monday at Fullerton.

Hornet pitchers had to throw only 88 pitches.

Fullerton got on the board in the bottom of the first when Isaiah Marquez hit a solo home run to left center.

The Lasers scored their lone run in the top of the second inning to tie things up. Sophomore catcher Connor Tallakson's single scored freshman center fielder Shane Stafford. Staffordd doubled to lead off the frame.

FC went up, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kaipo Haole ripped a singled to left field to score Britton Beeson.

Beeson broke the game open in the eighth with a two-run homer.

Deven Beasley (1-2) threw a complete game for the win for the Hornets.

Irvine Valley sophomore Sammy Murphy suffered the loss. He went eight innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts. His record went to 3-4 on the year.

The two teams play again on Thursday at Irvine Valley at 2 p.m. before finishing up the three-game set on Friday at Fullerton at 1 p.m.
