Star pitcher Jeremy Wiegman named first team all-conference

Irvine Valley's top starting pitcher Jeremy Wiegman was named first team all-Orange Empire Conference after the 2022 season.

The standout, right-hander signed with NCAA Division I Campbell University in North Carolina at the beginning of the year.

The 6-4, hard-throwing Wiegman pitched in seven contests with the Lasers during the 2021 abbreviated spring season and had 41 strikeouts in 30.2 innings. He went 1-3 on the year.

This past season in 2022, he had a record of 4-2 overall, making 14 appearances and starting 13 games.

He ranked sixth in the Orange Empire Conference in strikeouts with 65 for an 8.95 strikeout average per nine innings.

He finished eighth in the tough OEC with a 4.13 ERA.

Wiegman didn't pick up a win in one of his best starts of the year a 2-1 IVC victory at Fullerton on Mar. 15. But he went six innings and gave up no runs on three hits with five walks and six strikeouts.

Wiegman had a season-high nine strikeouts in four innings and gave up two runs in a win over San Bernardino Valley on Feb. 10.

Wiegman came to IVC from DII CCAA school Cal State San Marcos.

In 2020 at San Marcos, Weigman made six starts before the season was ended due to COVID-19.

He pitched a team-high 32.2 innings and led all starters in ERA while ranking second on the team for WHIP and strikeouts (30).

Wiegman is a 2019 graduate of Huntington Beach High. He was a two-year starting pitcher for the Oilers and helped HBHS win multiple Sunset League titles.

He is moving on to NCAA Division I Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. that finished with a record of 37-18 overall during the 2021 season.

Campbell had a special 2021 season, moving into the NCAA regionals in Starkville before losing to regional host and seventh-ranked in the country Missisippi, 6-5, last June.

In 2022, Campbell has a record of 37-18 overall, just claimed the Big South Conference title and is off to the NCAA tourney.
