Burckle, Faicchio and Kary named all-OEC for baseball team

The all-Orange Empire Conference teams for baseball were announced on Thursday and three Irvine Valley players were selected.

The OEC had a successful run during the spring around the Coronavirus pandemic with each conference team being able to play 28 games.

The Lasers finished tied for fourth in the conference with a record of 9-9. The team ended with a record of 12-14-2 overall.

Irvine Valley sophomore second baseman Eric Burckle and sophomore outfielder Dante Faicchio were each named to the first team and freshman shortstop Shane Kary was picked to the second team.

Burckle batted .321 with a team-leading 26 RBI for the Lasers. He had 26 hits, scored 18 runs and ended with seven doubles and a home run.

Burckle had a five-RBI game in Irvine Valley's final game of the year - a 9-7 win at Mt. SAC. He it a grand slam in the contest to put the Lasers up for good.

Faicchio was also a force at the plate for IVC. He hit .345 with a home run, 19 RBI, 19 runs, seven doubles, two triples and six stolen bases.

His big game of the year was a 5 for 5 effort at the plate with a walk, a double, a triple, four runs scored and six RBI in IVC's 17-5 victory at Fullerton. 

Faicchio led the Lasers with a .506 slugging percentage.

Kary started at shortstop for the Lasers and batted a team-high .377 with 15 runs scored, four doubles, two triples and 14 RBI.

He ended the year with a team-best .489 on base percentage.
