Baseball team rallies late at Fullerton to take series lead

Irvine Valley's baseball team made it two in a row over Fullerton and it was quite a win on Tuesday on the road.

The Lasers, down, 8-2, after the sixth inning, exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh and added three runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out a 11-10 victory.

The win moved IVC's record to 2-7-1 overall and 2-6 in the Orange Empire Conference.

Irvine Valley's six-run, seventh inning started with a single through the left side by sophomore outfielder Joey Lapolla.

Freshman third baseman Ethan Johannes then came through with a RBI double to right to make it a 8-4 game.

Freshman outfielder Bradley Wikison followed with a RBI single to left field.

The big blow for the Lasers came from freshman second baseman Eric Burckle. He hit a double that accounted for three RBI and moved IVC to within 8-7.

Irvine Valley took the lead in its next at bat.

The Lasers got an RBI single from Lapolla to tie the game and then went ahead with a two-run single by Johannes, who had another solid game. He went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI.

His single in the top of the eighth, put Irvine Valley ahead, 11-8.

Fullerton scored two runs late, but freshman right-hander Ryan Barlow closed out the game for the Lasers.

Burckle with three RBI, Lapolla went 2 for 4 with two RBI, sophomore Kyle Dobson came off the bench with two hits and two runs scored, sophomore first baseman Hank Schineller hit a solo home run and freshman catcher Gabe Briones had a big double late in the game for the Lasers.

Freshman lefty Seth Bougher earned the win in relief and Barlow pitched 1.2 scoreless innings for the save.

Irvine Valley hosts Fullerton to finish the four-game series on Friday at the OC Great Park Stadium. First game is seven innings and starts at 12 p.m. with the second game nine innings and beginning around 3 p.m.
