Baseball team scores in bunches at Fullerton for first W of 2021

Irvine Valley's offense exploded on Tuesday afternoon to give the Lasers their first win of the 2021 season.

The Lasers had been right there in nearly every one of their eight games over the last two week, but only had a tie to show for it in a seven-inning game last Friday against Orange Coast.

But there was no doubt in the squad's 17-5 Orange Empire Conference win at Fullerton on Tuesday.

Irvine Valley scored three runs in the second and four runs each in the third and fourth innings. The Lasers were helped by six Fullerton errors on the day.

IVC finished with 15 hits, including getting five of them in a big day from sophomore outfielder Dante Faicchio. Faicchio had a day, going 5 for 5 with a walk, a double, a triple, four runs and six RBI.

Nine different Irvine Valley players had hits.

Freshman second baseman Eric Burckle went 2 for 4 with four runs and one RBI and sophomore outfielder Joey Lapolla was 2 for 5 with a solo home run.

Sophomore Hank Schineller had a double and an RBI, freshman outfielder Noah Madole had a triple and two RBI and freshman shortstop Shane Kary walked twice and scored two runs.

Freshman shortstop Kike Morales also had a hit and an RBI.

Freshman righty Jeremy Wiegman picked up the win, going five innings. He gave up five runs on six hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Wiegman now has 27 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched this season.

Irvine Valley plays at Fullerton again on Thursday at 2 p.m.
