Baseball team loses second straight to Orange Coast

Irvine Valley's baseball team was chasing Orange Coast from the start on Thursday.

The Lasers gave up three runs in the first inning and ended up falling, 5-1, in the second game of the two teams' Orange Empire Conference series at OCC.

The Pirates (5-1, 4-1) had four hits for their three runs in the bottom of the first inning off of IVC starting pitcher Nate Madole.

Irvine Valley (0-6, 0-5) scored its lone run in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by sophomore left fielder Dante Faicchio. Faichhio went 1 for 2 with the RBI and a walk for the Lasers, who finished with six hits on the day.

Freshman second baseman Eric Burckle added two hits for Irvine Valley.

Orange Coast added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Cary Abolida and another run in the bottom of the eighth to pull away for the win.

Madole went four innings and gave up three runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Freshman righty Cruz Barrios relieved Madole and pitched four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Chazz Martinez earned the win for OCC. He pitched five innings and gave up one run on two hits and three walks. Martinez struck out seven.

Irvine Vally hosts Orange Coast in a doubleheader on Friday at the OC Great Park Stadium. The first game is at 12 p.m. and will be seven innings with a nine-inning game following at 3 p.m.
