The Irvine Valley baseball team played well for most of its four-game series against Cypress, but the Lasers ended up having nothing to show for it in the end.
The Lasers saw their record go to 0-4 after losing a doublehader on Friday at Cypress.
The Chargers won the first game, which was seven innings, 5-4, and then dropped a regular, nine-inning game, 9-4.
IVC was its own worst enemy at the plate in the series, leaving 39 runners on base in the four games.
In the opening game, Irvine Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman first baseman Casey Kudell had an RBI double and then freshman catcher Conner Hatz scored on a Cypress error.
Cypress came back with single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead.
IVC answered in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice by freshman designated hitter Noah Walden and RBI single by freshman right fielder Jack Haggerty to go ahead, 4-3.
But Cypress took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Freshman shortstop Kike Morales went 2 for 4 to pace IVC's attack. Freshman left fielder Noah Madole also added a double and scored a run.
Freshman righty Dallas Carpenter started on the mound and went four innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
In the second game, which also counted in Orange Empire Conference standings, IVC trailed just 5-4 after scoring a run in the top of the eighth inning.
But the Lasers ran into some trouble in the bottom of the eighth. Cypress scored four runs in that frame to take control.
Sophomore second baseman Dante Faicchio went 2 for 4 with two stolen bases in the contest. Freshman third baseman Ethan Johannes was 1 for 2 with one RBI and sophomore designated hitter Hank Schineller and sophomore Kyle Dobson each drove in runs.
Freshman Ian Green started and went five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
IVC is back in action next Tuesday, starting a four-game series against Orange Coast. First pitch is at 2 p.m. at Orange Coast
