Irvine Valley Spring II sports season schedules released

Irvine Valley Spring II Sports schedules were posted today on the ivclasers.com website.

The baseball, men's and women's tennis teams and men's volleyball squad will get a chance to play after the college opted in for Spring II Sports competition through the California Community College Athletic Association earlier this month.

Official Orange Empire Conference schedules were confirmed by administrative representatives on Tuesday.

Links to those four Irvine Valley schedules are posted below.

The Irvine baseball, men's volleyball and men's and women's tennis teams will play Orange Empire Conference schedules that will begin on Saturday, Apr. 13. There will be no fans in attendance and only players, coaches and IVC staff will be allowed at the events.

The Irvine Valley baseball team starts play on Apr. 13 against Cypress at 2 p.m. with a home game at the OC Great Park. Irvine Valley's home field is under construction for the spring.

The IVC women's tennis team will start at home on campus against Fullerton at 2 p.m on Apr. 13. The men's tennis team opens with a match at Fullerton on Apr. 13.

And the Laser men's volleyball team plays its first contest at Fullerton on Wednesday, Apr. 14 at 6 p.m.

The women's beach volleyball team will take the limited action opportunity and compete in scrimmages instead of playing an actual schedule.

The ability to compete, however, will be contingent on a number of issues including local, state and national COVID-19 policies at the time of competition. It will also be contingent on the implementation of COVID-19 safety protocols for competition, including testing, transportation, equipment sanitization, etc.

Irvine Valley opted out of California Community College Athletic Association Spring I Sport competition due to the surge of COVID-19 cases, pandemic conditions throughout the Southern California region and the stay-at-home order in the state in mid-December. Those sports included men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball.

Those five sports will have the opportunity to play two scrimmages this spring. The student athletes in those sports returned to the Irvine Valley campus in mid-February to begin training.

Irvine Valley teams began conditioning/training again - and were some of the first in the state to do so - last October (2020). Laser squads, with health protocols, including advanced health screening, temperature checks, mask wearing and social distancing each day that they trained, were on campus until early December.
