Baseball team has five-game win streak snapped by Chaffey

The Irvine Valley baseball team had its five-game win streak snapped on Friday in a 3-0 defeat to Chaffey at home.

Chaffey (8-5) swept the two-game series from the Lasers.

Irvine Valley (7-6) couldn't get enough going at the plate in the game and made a couple of costly errors on defense.

The Lasers finished with just four hits on the afternoon and all Chaffey's runs were unearned.

Freshman right-hander Dallas Carpenter pitched well for Irvine Valley.

He took the tough loss, but went eight strong innings, allowing just five hits and no walks. The lone run he gave up in the top of the seventh innings was unearned.

Carpenter (1-2) finished with five strikeouts.

Sophomore catcher Collin Villegas had a hit and a walk and sophomore shortstop Robert Haw, sophomore third baseman Dante Faicchio and sophomore first baseman Hank Schineller each added a hit for IVC.

Chaffey scored runs in the one run in the top of the seventh and then added two unearned runs in the top of the ninth.

Johan Castillo picked up the win in relief for the Panthers, pitching a scoreless 1.1 innings.

Colby Sims led Chaffey on offense with three hits and one RBI.

Irvine Valley is back at it on Saturday at noon against San Bernardino Valley. The Lasers will first resume Thursday's 12-12 game that was halted in the 10th inning due to darkness at San Bernardinio.

The Lasers will then take on SBVC in their regularly scheduled contest.
