Baseball team beats Grossmont again, takes 8-5 victory

The Irvine Valley baseball team won its second straight game over Grossmont, beating the Griffins, 8-5, on the road on Thursday afternoon.

The Lasers scored four important runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead and held on the rest of the way.

Irvine Valley had 15 hits on the day.

Sophomore third baseman Dante Faicchio was 3 for 5 with a triple and two RBI, sophomore left fielder Kyle Dobson went 2 for 5 with three RBI and freshman second baseman David Dorado was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Sophomore shortstop Robert Haw, sophomore catcher Collin Villegas and sophomore designated hitter Dante Catalino each also had two hits on the day. Haw, Catalino and freshman center fielder Bradley Wilkison each also drove in a run.

Freshman right-hander Dallas Carpenter picked up the win. He went six innings and gave up five runs on 10 hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Freshman Steven Hayden came into the game in relief for the second straight day and did a fine job. He pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 4-5 on the year.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Mt. San Jacinto at 12 p.m.
