Pitcher Anthony Castillo signs with Vanguard University

A number of Irvine Valley baseball players have signed to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year schools over the last month and they will each be highlighted over the coming weeks at www.ivclasers.com

Freshman relief pitcher Anthony Castillo has signed with Vanguard University.

Castillo was impressive for the Lasers when he got his number called. He made seven appearances and finished with a 0.84 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched.

He had a 0-1 record on the year. Castillo gave up nine hits and had 10 strikeouts in those 10.2 innings for the Lasers.

The 6-2 righthander ended with a 8.44 strikeout/per nine innings pitched on the year.

Irvine Valley finished with a 20-19-1 record and just missed making the postseason this year.

Castillo, a former Yorba Linda High standout, is headed to a Vanguard team that ended the year with a record of 31-19 overall and went 17-14 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
