Laser pitcher Chad Burchit headed to Chico State

A number of Irvine Valley baseball players have signed to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year schools over the last few weeks and they will each be highlighted over the coming days at www.ivclasers.com

It starts with a key member of the Irvine Valley pitching staff the last two seasons.

Sophomore pitcher Chad Burchit has signed with NCAA Division II Chico State.

The right-handed Burchit made 17 appearances this past season and started four games. He went 2-2 with a 4.35 ERA. Burchit threw 41.1 innings and had nine strikeouts.

He pitched four scoreless innings against Long Beach City early in the year and then pitched 4.1 shutout innings in Irvine Valley's 2-1 win over Palomar.

Burchit picked up a win with five strong innings in Irvine Valley's 7-2 win over San Diego City. He allowed just one run and struck out five in that outing.

Irvine Valley finished with a 20-19-1 record and just missed making the postseason.

As a freshman in 2018, Burchit made 24 appearances and five starts and went 3-5 with one save and a 4.65 ERA. He threw 69.1 innings and had 34 strikeouts.

The former Tesoro player is headed to a Chico State team that went 28-21 overall and 24-18 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association this past season.
