Former IVC player Cooper Moore earns honors at Concordia

For the third time in the month of May, former Irvine Valley baseball player and current Concordia University slugger Cooper Moore was named to an All-Region baseball squad.

Last week, Moore was announced as a Second Team All-Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) at designated hitter.

Moore started and played in all 47 games for the Eagles as the team's designated hitter or first baseman and totaled 150 at-bats. His presence at the plate was crucial to the offense's success as Moore compiled a .340 batting average and collected 51 hits.

In addition, the Huntington Beach, Calif. native proved that he could hit for both average and power, ranking second on the Eagles with six homers. Moore also scored 30 runs while leading the Eagles in doubles (12), walks (24), and RBI (37).

"It was all possible with the help from all my coaches and my teammates for pushing me to do my best and have fun as well," said Moore on Concordia's website. "All the extra hours in the cages and in the weight room paid off thankfully. I am honored to be recognized for how I played this year. I actually was surprised on how many different awards there are out there."

"Cooper had an outstanding year and I'm very proud of him," said CUI baseball head coach Joe Turgeon. "The work he puts in and the leadership he has given our program, he has certainly left a mark already with our team. I'm looking forward to him and all of our upperclassmen coming back next season as we look to build off a lot of positives in the future."

The 2019 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. II All-Region teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee. For the complete list of players on the NCAA DII teams, click here.

Moore had already been named to the 2019 NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) All-West Region team. He was a Second-Team selection by the NCBWA as a designated hitter.

Moore was previously recognized as a Second-Team All-West Region selection by the D2CCA (Division II College Coaches Association) and was also named First-Team All-PacWest Conference.

Moore was also the only CUI Eagle to be named PacWest Player of the Week twice this year.

Moore helped the Eagles win six of their final seven games to close out the 2019 season.  CUI vaulted into fourth place after sweeping a four-game series at Holy Names and finished just half a game in the standings behind third-place Point Loma.

In 2018 at Irvine Valley, Moore was named second team all-Orange Empire Conference.

He finished the year strong for IVC.

Moore ended up with a .283 batting average with three home runs, 16 RBI, 19 runs scored and nine stolen bases. He hit .329 in conference action with three home runs and 14 RBI.
