Baseball player Nick Janowicz signs with Towson University

Irvine Valley right-handed pitcher Nick Janowicz has signed with NCAA Division I Towson University for the 2020 spring season.

The 6-9 Janowicz will be entering his sophomore season at IVC in January.

He had a solid freshman year with the Lasers going 3-5 with a team-high 72.2 innings pitched. Janowicz struck out 59 batters and had a 4.83 ERA.

Janowicz went at least five innings in of his starts. He went 5.1 innings without giving up a run, only allowing one hit and striking out seven in a 4-0 Irvine Valley victory on Feb. 2, 2017 and went 6.0 innings without allowing a run and allowing just five hits, while striking out eight batters in Irvine Valley's 4-0 win at West LA last year.

He pitched well and went a season-best 8.0 innings, giving up three runs with three strikeouts in a 3-2 loss to Cypress at home on Apr. 10.

Janowicz follows Irvine Valley standout middle infielder Colin Conroy to Towson. Conroy finished up his sophomore season in 2018 and signed with the Tigers after the year.

Janowicz came to Irvine Valley after competing at Orange Lutheran High.

Janowicz and the Irvine Valley team, which finished with an overall record of 18-22 last season, start their 2019 campaign on Friday, Jan. 25 at Long Beach City at 2 p.m.
