Groundbreaking event a success for new baseball amenities

The Irvine Valley baseball facility will be getting added resources in 2019.

Irvine Valley College and the South Orange County Community College District recently broke ground on what will be a 3,800-square foot, one-story building that will serve as a student Health and Wellness Center that will also offer sports training and other athletics related services.

The project, located near the baseball fields on the south end of campus, is expected to complete by next fall.

The Health and Wellness Center will include three private examination rooms, a waiting room, reception room, nurses station, and staff offices.

And the athletics portion is expected to include a trainer's room, ticket booth and concessions stand, public restrooms and new bleacher seating for up to 300 spectators.

"This has been a long awaited and much needed project by our campus," Irvine Valley President Glenn Roquemore said. "I can't wait until next year when we reconvene to celebrate the grand opening of a vital new addition to the IVC campus."

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday and included SOCCD Chancellor Kathleen Burke, board of trustees Timoth Jemal, Marcia Milchiker and James Wright, Vice Chancellor of Human Resources Cindy Vyskocil, Vice Chancellor of Technology and Learning Services Robert Bramucci, as well as Dean and Athletic Director Keith Shackleford and baseball coach Kent Madole.

"Now we are in a position where we can dominate in athletics state wide because of the facilities that we have," Shackleford said.
