Baseball player Ryan Gaynor headed to Georgetown College

Irvine Valley baseball player Ryan Gaynor is headed to NAIA Georgetown College in in Kentucky.

Gaynor, who wrapped up his sophomore year in 2018, is the second IVC player this year and third in the last two years to go to Georgetown.

Outfielder and designated hitter Zack Stack signed earlier this summer and former Laser first baseman Tyler Wagner went to play for the Tigers in 2017.

Gaynor was Irvine Valley's starting catcher as a freshman in 2017. He batted .259 with seven doubles, 19 runs, 23 RBI and seven stolen bases in 42 games.

He also had a .990 fielding percentage and caught 11 runners stealing.

Gaynor started behind the plate to begin the 2018 year for the Lasers, but was set back by an injury midway through the season.

He ended up playing 27 games, many at designated hitter for IVC at the end of the season.

Gaynor batted .198 with two home runs and 16 RBI. His highlight of the season came with a walk-off, game-winning solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Irvine Valley to a 7-6 win over Santa Ana at home on Apr. 24. Gaynor went 2 for 2 with that home run and three RBI in the contest.

He also had three RBI in Irvine Valley's 20-9 win at Orange Coast on Apr. 21.

Gaynor, who went to Crean Lutheran, before coming to Irvine Valley, is headed to a Georgetown College program that had a record of 30-22 overall this past season.
