Baseball team loses in pitching duel at Fullerton

Irvine Valley's baseball team lost another tight game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lasers fell at Fullerton, 4-1, in the first of a three-game series.

Irvine Valley's record went to 14-15 overall and 4-6 in conference. Fullerton improved to 15-13 overall and 7-3 in conference.

Irvine Valley scored the first run of the contest and it was a 2-1 game until the bottom of the eighth inning.

Freshman hurler Nick Janowicz pitched well for IVC. He went seven innings and gave up just two runs into the seventh. Fullerton scored two more in the bottom of the eighth to chase Janowicz.

He gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

Freshman Chad Burchit pitched the final inning for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley opened the game with a run in the top of the third inning. Freshman catcher Ryan Santa Cruz scored on a groundout by sophomore second baseman Colin Conroy.

But the Lasers couldn't get much going after that.

Fullerton scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good an then scored the two more runs in the eighth.

Irvine Valley finished with just five hits in the game and Fullerton had only six hits.

Conroy was 2 for 3 with one RBI for IVC. Freshman center fielder Ben McConnell, sophomore left fielder Wyatt McGinnnis and freshman shortstop Dustin Angus had the Lasers other hits.

Jake Anderson went 2 for 4 for Fullerton.

Connor Tousignant went the distance on the mound for the Hornets for the win to lift his record to 3-2. He gave up one run on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The two teams play again on Thursday at Irvine Valley at 2 p.m.
