Baseball team rallies for 5-4 win at San Bernardino Valley

Irvine Valley's baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth and came back for a 5-4 win over San Bernardino on the road in its first game in the College of the Desert Tournament.

The win lifted Irvine Valley's record to 2-2 overall.

Irvine Valley did it all with two outs in the ninth. The Lasers trailed, 4-2, going into the their last at bat.

Freshman designated hitter Ryan Santa Cruz doubled and then freshman centerfielder Ben McConnell also doubled to knock in Santa Cruz and make it a 4-3 game.

Freshman second baseman David Rojas hit an RBI single to score McConnell and tie the game. Rojas moved to second on the throw to the plate.

And then freshman shortstop Dustin Angus followed with a single to bring in the go-ahead run and give IVC a 5-4 lead.

Freshman right-hander Noah Bradford pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to pick up his first win of the year.

Bradford went 3.2 innings and allowed no runs, giving up two hits and striking out three batters.

Freshman Jason Farese started the game on the mound for the Lasers and pitched 5.1 innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks.

For IVC at the plate, McConnell went 3 for 4 with two runs and one RBI. Angus was 3 for 4 with a walk and one RBI and sophomore first baseman Grant Rockefeller was 2 for 4.

Irvine Valley finished with 13 hits on the day.

The Lasers play their next game at College of the Desert on Friday, taking on Palomar at 2 p.m.
