Irvine Valley's baseball team scored the first two runs of the game, but a six-run top of the sixth inning was the difference for Long Beach City in the deciding game of a three-game series on Tuesday afternoon at home.
Long Beach City came out on top, 9-3, to take two of the three games.
IVC's record slipped to 1-2 overall, while Long Beach City improved to 2-1.
Freshman first baseman Brett Long had two hits, freshman shortstop Dustin Angus and sophomore catcher Ryan Gaynor each went 1 for 4 with one RBI and sophomore designated hitter Zack Stack was 1 for 3 with one RBI for the Lasers.
IVC got an RBI double by Angus and then an RBI single by Gaynor in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Long Beach City answered with a run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Mark Stanford.
But it was the sixth inning that was the difference. Long Beach City sent 10 players to the plate and scored six runs on six hits. Irvine Valley also made a key error in the inning.
Reese Berberet tied the score at 2-2 on an RBI single to left field. Berberet later scored the go-ahead run when Andrew Schmit earned a walk with the bases loaded.
LBCC then scored three runs on a single and an IVC error to make it a 6-2 game.
The Vikings capped their scoring in the inning when Danny Gill hit an RBI double to right center.
Long Beach City added another run in the top of the seventh after an inning-opening error by the Lasers.
IVC pulled to within 8-3 after Stack hit an RBI single to right field to score Long.
Freshman right-hander Chad Burchit took the tough loss, giving up four runs on seven hits and no walks with one strikeout in 5.1 innings.
Joshua Rios got the win for Long Beach City. He pitched five innings and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Long Beach City, which finished the day with 12 hits, got two apiece from David Rivera, Stanford, David Balboa and Gill.
Irvine Valley will play again on Thursday when it is at San Bernardino Valley at 2 p.m. as part of the College of the Desert Tournament.
IVC plays Palomar on Friday at College of the Desert and then takes on host COD on Saturday.
