Baseball player Tyler Wagner moving on to Georgetown College

Irvine Valley sophomore first baseman Tyler Wagner has signed to play at Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kent. this fall.

Wagner was a two-year player for Irvine Valley and played a key role in helping the Lasers reach the Southern California Regional Playoffs and win a postseason contest.

Wagner played in 41 of Irvine Valley's 43 games and batted .277 with eight doubles, three home runs, 21 RBI and five stolen bases.

He was tied for first on the team in home runs, tied for second in doubles, tied for third in RBI and fifth on the team in batting average this past season.

Wagner also ranked third in slugging percentage (.429) and fourth in on base percentage (.390).

He had six multi-hit games this season, including three in Irvine Valley's final five contests of the season.

He went 3 for 4 at the plate in the Lasers' key 5-3 win over No. 2 Orange Coast on Apr. 28. The win helped Irvine Valley make the postseason. 

Wagner followed with a 3 for 5 effort with two runs scored and an IVC career-high five RBI in the Lasers' 11-2 win at Chaffey on May 2 in an elimination game of the playoffs.

Wagner, out of El Modena High, is headed to a Georgetown program that had a record of 32-19 last season.
