Baseball player Austin Reynolds signs with Concordia

Irvine Valley sophomore pitcher Austin Reynolds has signed with NCAA Division II Concordia University in Irvine.

Reynolds, a 6-2, 190-pound right-hander, was a workhorse for the Lasers in 2017.

He pitched 86.1 innings, making 13 starts. He had a record of 5-5 with one save, one complete game and a 3.65 ERA. Reynolds finished the year with 60 strikeouts.

Reynolds was second on the team in innings pitched, second in strikeouts and third in ERA among starting pitchers.

Among his top outings was a 5-1 win at Palomar in which he gave up just one run and eight hits over 5.2 innings, a 4-1 win against Fullerton where he allowed one unearned run on seven hits over seven innings and a 11-2 victory in Irvine Valley's playoff win at Chaffey in which he allowed just one run on seven hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Reynolds also went eight innings and didn't allow a run, giving up just four hits and striking out six batters in what turned out to be a 1-0 loss for Irvine Valley against Cypress.

Reynolds helped the Lasers finish with a record of 19-24 overall and 6-15 in the tough Orange Empire Conference in 2017. Irvine Valley still made the playoffs and won its first game, beating Chaffey, 11-2, on the road.

As a freshman in 2016, Reynolds pitched 19.0 innings and had a record of 2-0 with one complete game and a 3.79 ERA.

The former Canyon High standout is headed to a Concordia program that had a record of 22-28 overall and a 18-19 record in the PacWest Conference this past season.

Former Irvine Valley players Dillon Millar and Jason McLellan were juniors on the Concordia team in 2017.
