Baseball team takes on Fullerton in deciding game Saturday

Irvine Valley's baseball team will take on Fullerton with the three-game series on the line on Saturday at Irvine Valley at 12 p.m.

Fullerton defeated IVC, 12-4, on Thursday at Fullerton to even the series at a game apiece.

The Hornets had 17 hits on the afternoon and put up five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take control.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 13-6 overall and 1-1 in conference, while Fullerton improved to 11-7 overall and 1-1 in conference.

The Lasers had eight hits on the afternoon with freshman second baseman Colin Conroy continuing to stay hot. He had three hits for his second straight game, going 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored.

Sophomore right fielder Cole Joy went 1 for 4 with two RBI and sophomore designated hitter Robbie Espinosa was 1 for 2 with. He hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to bring Irvine Valley to within 6-2.

But Fullerton put up three runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 9-2 game.

Jake Anderson and Ryan Aguirre each went 3 for 5 at the plate for the Hornets with Anderson and Thomas Delgadillo both had two doubles and drove in two runs.

Sophomore right-hander Tyler Venturelli took the loss for the Lasers. He went 5.1 innings and gave up six runs (three earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts. IVC made three errors in the game.

Venturelli's record slipped to 4-1 overall.

Chris Sanchez earned the win for Fullerton, going 7.1 innings and giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Sanchez improved to 4-2.

After the series finale with Fullerton on Saturday, Irvine Valley will start a three-game conference set with Golden West next Tuesday at home.
