Reynolds traded zeros with Compton starting pitcher CJ Soto. Soto went seven innings and allowed gave up no runs on five hits and two walks.

Irvine Valley pushed two runs across in the bottom of the eighth inning against Compton reliever Michael Miranda.

Sophomore right fielder Cole Joy singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Freshman pinch hitter Nash Hathaway moved him to second base with a bunt.

And then freshman catcher Ryan Gaynor came up with the hit of the game.

He battled back from an 0-2 count to 2-2 and then singled up the middle to drive in Joy.
