Former Irvine Valley standout baseball players had a special season with the Vanguard University program this past spring.

Matt Harris and Chris Lumanlan helped Vanguard win 40 games and reach the NAIA Opening Round Regional Championship.

Vanguard, which was ranked 16th, fell to No. 3 Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala. in late May.

Harris, a senior, batted .285 and started 56 of 58 games for Vanguard. He played mostly first base.

Harris, who was a second-team all-Orange Empire Conference player for Irvine Valley in 2013 after batting .326, finished the year at Vanguard with 56 hits, 16 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 35 RBI.

He also had a .994 fielding percentage.

Lumanlan, a junior, ended the season with a 3.24 ERA and a 3-1 record in 15 appearances.

He pitched 41.2 innings and had 36 strikeouts.

Opponents hit just .216 against Lumanlan on the season.

In his two years at Irvine Valley, Lumanlan threw 133 innings and a solid 3.38 ERA.
