Irvine Valley sophomore pitcher Kyle Goodbrand recently signed with UC San Diego.
Goodbrand, a 6-2 right-hander, is in his first year pitching with the Lasers.
He was at Saddleback last season and helped the Gauchos go 27-16 and make the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
Goodbrand appeared in 14 games as a reliever and had a record of 1-0 with two saves with the Gauchos. He pitched 14.2 innings and had a 3.68 ERA with 10 strikeouts.
This year with Irvine Valley, Goodbrand has appeared in 13 games and made nine starts. He has thrown 50 innings and struck out 37 batters with a 5.76 ERA.
Goodbrand has a record of 4-6 overall.
Goodbrand is a product of Orange County. He was a star at Tesoro High and graduated there in 2013. Goodbrand was the MVP for the Titans his senior year.
He red-shirted at Arizona State in 2014 before coming back to the county with Saddleback.
The Tritons are a NCAA Division 2 program. UC San Diego had a record of 27-15 overall and was 17-13 in the CCAA heading into this weekend's action.
