Baseball team can't get by Riverside at home

Irvine Valley's baseball team matched Riverside inning for inning for most of the afternoon in an Orange Empire Conference game at IVC on Thursday.

Riverside pushed across what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the fifth inning and then added five more in the ninth inning for a 6-0 win over the Lasers.

Riverside (20-15, 8-12) got a standout performance from freshman Daniel Agramont on the mound.

Making just his second start of the season, Agramont pitched eight shutout innings and gave up just one hit and three walks with 10 strikeouts.

Agramont didn't allow a hit until one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.

He also earned his first win, moving to 1-0.

Sabino Ramirez pitched a scoreless ninth for the Tigers, giving up one hit and striking out one batter.

Irvine Valley sophomore left-hander Ryan Abady was solid through eight innings. He gave up the run in the fifth on an RBI single by Garrett McKee.

Riverside scored four runs on Abady in the ninth.

Abady ended up going 8 .1 innings and giving up five runs on 12 hits and two walks with two strikeouts. His record went to 3-5 on the year.

Casey Sheehan was 3 for 4 with one RBI, Michael Darr went 3 for 4 and Brody Weiss and Garrison Cole each had two hits on the day for Riverside. Cole also scored two runs.

IVC's lone hits came from sophomore left fielder Clint Jack and sophomore shortstop Jordan Gillerman.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 17-18 overall and 8-12 in conference after the loss.

IVC found out on Thursday that it picked up three wins in conference play because Fullerton had to forfeit games for using an ineligible player.

Riverside and Irvine Valley have no each won a game in the three-game series. The deciding game and final game of the regular season will be played at Riverside on Friday at 2 p.m.
